FORMER legendary West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts insists the players must take some responsibility for the regional team’s malaise despite the majority of fingers being pointed at the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).All eyes have been turned sharply on once unbeatable West Indies team currently on a disastrous tour of Australia. In two Tests so far the regional team has not only lost, but for the most part failed to compete.
The WICB under pressure in recent months, following a player walkout in India, in 2014, have also faced recommendations they be disbanded following an independently funded assessment report. Roberts, however, believes some of the attention must be focused on the pitch.
“I am going to not lay the blame totally on the Board, but I will lay the blame on the feet of the players, because the players have to take up responsibility to develop their cricket, so that they can have positive results,” Roberts said.
“You don’t have to win, all you have to do (is) to compete, but at the moment we (West Indies) are not competing, definitely not competing,” he added.(Sportsmax).
