PLANNING has started for the annual Essequibo Nite, Exhibition and Fair, and according Regional Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud, the activity is slated for the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground on October 17 and 18, and will showcase the region’s agricultural produce and locally manufactured products.

He said a first planning meeting was held on Monday in the Regional Boardroom, and several sub-committees were set up to fast-track planning of the activity. Mr Persaud said he will head the security, meals and accommodation committee, while the Regional Vice-Chairman Mr. Vishnu Samaroo will head the Works committee. According to the chairman, the cultural committee will be headed by Ms. Meenawattie of the Education Department of the Region and the Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Sunil Singh will be in charge of the committees responsible for tickets and sanitation. He said Information Officer, Mr. Rajendra Prabhulall will head the Public Relations Committee.
The Chairman said the head of each sub-committee will elect members to serve on their respective committees. The Essequibo Nite, Exhibition and Fair, which was first started by late Agriculture Minister, Mr. Satyadeow Sawh several years ago, was held under the theme “Made in Guyana ,Grown in Guyana.” The activity has become an annual feature in Essequibo and attracts thousands of people from across the country, the Caribbean and other foreign countries.
This year’s activity is expected to be bigger, brighter and more attractive. The regional administration is seeking to introduce a different theme this year for the activity. The chairman said the theme will be selected from several entries Thursday morning.
