‘Person of interest’ being sought over Samantha

Ashby murder at Matthews Ridge

FOLLOWING the September 16 murder of Samantha Ashby in Matthews Ridge, North West District (NWD) ‘F’ Division Commander Courtney Ramsay said sleuths in that region are hunting a ‘person of interest.’

The Senior Superintendent disclosed that the suspect is a person who is working in the mining area of Arakaka, also in Region 1 (Barima/Waini) and it is only time before he is arrested for questioning regarding the homicide.
He noted that the three suspects, who were in custody shortly after the murder, were released after the 72-period holding time had expired.
Ramsay added that the men described as ‘Coastlanders,’ who were mining in the area, were released on bail.
The semi-nude mutilated body of the mother of one was found in the village playfield by a group of school children.
The woman was identified as 32-year-old Samantha Ashby of Pakera, a small community on the outskirts of Matthews Ridge, North West District.
Ashby was seen in a shop in the village the night before imbibing with a group of men, who are said to be miners, but her subsequent whereabouts were unknown.
A post-mortem revealed that she died from multiple injuries, including a broken hip and fractured skull.
