Racers and fans alike are eager for today’s season opening Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC)’s endurance meet, billed for the South Dakota Circuit,Timheri.Group three driver Danny Persaud is using this endurance meet as the first of many warm- ups in his quest to take the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) , set to begin in May.
Today’s race, according to Persaud, will dust the cobwebs off the racing, saying, “This three- hour endurance is really important to me as a racer. It will test my fitness behind the wheel and will gauge my fitness heading into the CMRC season.”
“Apart from that, as a racer, almost any local event that I can compete in I try to get to the start line. The adrenaline and the thrill of racing on the track is something that I can’t really explain,” contended Persaud.
The driver, who finished fourth in the 2015 CMRC group three standings, contended that this is essentially the start of his personal preparation for the year.
“I know it’s a bit early to speak about the CMRC and its competition, but I view this as my litmus for the upcoming season. Last season I didn’t do well in the CMRC standings; my team worked hard but we didn’t get the results. This time around its going to be different,” said the driver.
He will return to the wheel of the Toyota Starlet with which he entered motor racing at the group two level. His mechanic Anil Persaud is slated to be his co-driver come race day.
In keeping with tradition, cars will be classed into groups based on engine capacity and will compete for three hours along the largest of the three tracts
In an added attraction for fans, there will be several three- lap superstreet races where street -cars will be allowed a race along the smaller track.
The GMRSC has also announced that admission is free and the event begins at 10:00hrs.
