GROUPS 3 and 4 driver Danny Persaud has backed his modified Mazda Miata’s recent reliable run as his edge over the rest of the competition in the upcoming Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) Race of Champions. Speaking to Chronicle Sport, the driver indicated that the car ran very dependably in Trinidad at the second leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) and he is hoping that run of form continues.
“The car ran great in Trinidad, we did some work before we left and we saw that it paid off when we got there. Of course there were one and two fine problems that every racer knows about, but all in all we feel that it was a good outing and I feel that reliability will be a factor on August 9.”
With just under a week to go and the competition at the Group 3 level heating up, Persaud, who is also the club captain, noted that the Group 3 pack will definitely be tough this time around with drivers already signalling podium intentions.
“Yeah, Group 3 is going to be a tough group. We know there are cars on the grid that are capable of wins but I have confidence in my car. My mechanic Anil Persaud and the rest of the team have been doing a wonderful job and I know that they are going to want podium finishes.”
Persaud, who had a tooth and nail battle with overseas-based Guyanese and Trinidad’s representative Paul Vieira at the second leg, still sits third in the CMRC Group 3 standings behind Jamaica’s Natasha Chang and Cayman Islands’ Gary Barrett.
The Race of Champions of the GMR&SC will feature 21 events on the day, inclusive of Groups 1 through 4 and super-stock motor cycles.
Admission is $1 000 for adults and children under 12, $500. Race time is set at 09:00hrs.
Among the day’s sponsors are South Land International through the Carlsberg brand, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), Fly Jamaica, Rent-a-Tent and Ganesh Parts.
