ONTARIO Softball Cricket League (OSCL) team will join other North American sides to compete at the Guyana Softball Cup 111 which is set to commence next Saturday under the auspices of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA).

The players are full of confidence, according to Manager/Player Terry Mathura during an exclusive interview in Toronto last Monday, as they already began vigorous preparations for the tour of Guyana.
“I (am) definitely confident that our players will do well in Guyana; they have shown a lot of enthusiasm and determination to make an impression down there so we are in good shape,” Mathura, the current OSCL vice-president related.
The Canadians will participate in the Open 20-over category and Mathura believes his boys are accustomed to playing the longer version and that will certainly propel their optimism of bringing back the championship trophy.
He also reserved special mention for the GSFCA for their invitation and this wonderful gesture to get them to participate among some of the top softball players and they are willing to make the most of the opportunity.
“We have been preparing very hard since the selection of the side with the players who are available because other senior players can’t make it due to their work commitment and personal reasons.
“However, we have several players in Guyana who would come to Canada and play in our league and we will use them there, while we must thank the GFSCA for inviting and hosting us,” Mathura declared.
The side will begin their quest for supremacy against arch-rivals New York in the first set of preliminary round matches while the competition will conclude on Sunday, November 11 with the grand finale at the world-famous and former international venue Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
Mathura also explained that the team was selected based on the performances in the recently concluded OSCL’s various and annual competitions and will be accompanied by OSCL president Albert Ramcharran, who will perform the duties of the Communication Officer while Vish Jadunauth, another senior executive of OSCL, will be the team’s coordinator.
Other representatives from the league to be in Guyana will be Statistician Patrick Shivrattan and West End cricket coordinator Ryan Bhup. Mathura also thanked the different sponsors for making their trip to Guyana a reality and SWK for the uniforms.
The winning team will receive a monetary prize of $800 000 and trophy, while the runners-up will be carting off $200 000 and a trophy, with several individual prizes up for grabs as well.
Notably, the OSCL 2013 Presentation Dinner and Dance will be held tomorrow at Eastown Banquet Hall (Brimley Road and Eglinton Ave) in Scarborough, where several distinguished personalities are expected to grace the occasion.
The OSCL team reads: Devanand Ramsaywack, Trevon Garraway, Ravin Babulall, Navin Bhup, Gavin Singh, Rayburn Gonsalves, Terry Mathura, Ryan Bhup, Rickey Mahadeo, Ian Gonsalves and Andy Persaud.
