SLICK Lennox Beckles came up short when he fought Italian Carmelo Rossi on January 28, 1968 in Milan, Italy.When the 10-round fight ended the judges had Rossi a clear winner. Later in his career Rossi was crowned World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association super welterweight champions.

In his previous fight, Beckles was defeated by Johnny Cooke while challenging for the vacant Commonwealth welterweight title. The fight was held on October 16, 1967 in Liverpool, England and Cooke won by points decision after 15 rounds.
Beckles made his professional debut on September 26, 1960 and his first fight ended in a draw. He reached 10 fights without being defeated. However, his first loss came on May 16, 1964. Coming up against Percy Hayles at the National Stadium in Jamaica, Beckles was defeated via a unanimous decision.
Brian Muller was Beckles’ last opponent. The fight took place in Guyana on May 27, 1979 and Muller was adjudged the winner. Beckles won 33 fights, lost 13 and drew two.
