KNOWN as the `Lion Heart’, Guyanese middleweight Steve Frank enjoyed a rewarding time in the ring and, in a professional career that spanned 11 years, became one of a handful of locals who challenged for a world title. Frank defeated American Joe Harris on January 28, 1995 in Miami, Florida. The judges had to decide the winner of the eight-round bout. Frank had first met Harris on March 6, 1987 but won that fight by TKO in the fifth round.

He turned pro on April 18, 1986, three days after his 21st birthday and defeated Arthur Dewar. In January 1996 he entered the history books by becoming Bernard `The Executioner’ Hopkins’ quickest knockout victim.
Challenging for the American International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight title, Frank received a one-way ticket to dreamland after just 24 seconds of the first round.
He moved on to win the NBA super middleweight title in September 1997 and retired the same year. His record reads 17 victories (5 KOs), four defeats and one draw.
