Boxing strategist Kenny Bristol lost a close 15-round decision to Herol Graham on November 25, 1981. The fight had the Commonwealth junior middleweight title at stake and was held in Graham’s hometown of Yorkshire, England. The win carried the 22-year-old Graham’s record to 19-0. Bristol made his debut in Queens News York in October 1976. A gangly junior middleweight ,a former New York Golden Gloves champion had his first taste of pro boxing when he defeated John LoCicero at the Sunny Side Garden.
Bristol improved his record to 3-0 after defeating American Bob `The Hunter’ Patterson by points in a six-rounded held in February 1977 at the Sunny Side Garden in New York, USA. He would have his first five professional fights at the same venue.
In his tenth contest in the ring Bristol clashed with St Kitts and Nevis born Pat Thomas for the vacant Commonwealth title. Following a 15 round decision over Thomas the slick Guyanese became the first and only to win a Commonwealth title at home.
Bristol would go on to build a record of 20 fights with 15 victories from an eight year career. He remains one of the best junior middleweights produced by Guyana.
