JUNIOR middleweight Tony `The Tiger’ Marshall had an entertaining fight with Andrew Council but in the end had to settle for a draw. The contest was held on July 1, 1994 at the PA Convention Centre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the second of five fights the Guyanese had for that year.
The battle against the American Council was the main supporting event on a card that was headlined by a match between Ivan Robinson and Lyndon Walker. Council was 27 years old at the time, four years older than his opponent.
Like Marshall, the American had two unsuccessful attempts at world titles. He lost on points to Bernard Hopkins and Keith Holmes when challenging for the International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Council middleweight titles respectively.
Marshall was born in Guyana but lived in the USA from an early age. He is part of a small group from the Land of Many Waters who although born in Guyana, never fought a professional contest in Guyana.
The group comprises Cleveland Denny, Egerton Marcus, Adrian Dodson, Steve Frank, Dennis Andries and Vivian Harris.
