Nineteen days after his 23rd birthday, NBA cruiserweight champion Andre `Stone’ Purlette, humbled Elton Singleton in four rounds in Hollywood, Florida. The fight was held on November 23, 1996 and was stopped in round four to avoid further punishment to Singleton. It was the fifth bout that year for the power-puncher from Guyana, who had moved to the USA approximately one year earlier.
Before meeting the lowly rated Singleton, Purlette had racked up 12 victories (all by knockouts) and had won one fight against Vidal Rawlins via disqualification.
He moved up in weight to win the World Boxing Organisation NABO heavyweight title. He stopped fighting in 2009 and is now a fitness trainer in the USA.
