CRUISERWEIGHT Andre `Stone’ Purlette had his first fight on American soil on March 26, 1996. Purlette needed only two rounds to win by TKO over American Fred Adams. Purlette was 22 years old at the time, undefeated in nine fights and fresh out of the tropics. He suffered his first defeat on December 4, 2002. The power-puncher entered the ring with an imposing record of 32 victories (28 Kos). However, his credentials went unnoticed by Cuban-American Eliester Castillo who TKOed the Guyanese.

Referee Brian Garry stopped the contest at two minutes 58 seconds of the fifth round to save the `Stone’ further punishment. The defeat came as a surprise as Purlette had taken out several top contenders in a short space of time.
In October of the previous year, he had TKOed Jeremy Bates, to claim the vacant WBO NABO heavyweight title. Former world champion Jimmy Thunder lasted only two rounds with Purlette in July 2001.
Purlette last fought in 2009 and has a record of 40 victories in 44 fights. He has boxed 134 rounds and has a 79 percent knockout average and is now a fitness trainer in Florida.
