TORONTO, Canada — Already with the Caribbean Sensation 10/10 trophy firmly in their grasp and aiming for a repeat performance of 2014 when they swept all before them, Dant are expected to face stiff opposition tomorrow when they oppose Sunshine in the Norman Sue Bakery-sponsored 15-over final at the Ashtonbee Number One ground. The Conference A final of the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) tournament, featuring the two archrivals, will be played simultaneously with the Conference B final which will see GTA Storms clashing with newcomers Enterprise in what is also expected to also be a thrilling contest.

What is certain is when the final delivery is bowled in each contest, new winners will be crowned since Cricketers Cove who captured the Conference A title last season have since pulled out of this year’s season while Rebels, who won the Conference B crown, have been elevated to Conference A.
Playing well below the standard they had set in their debut season (2014), Dant were thrashed by Cricketers Cove in last year’s final after they were restricted to an insufficient 79 for nine in their allotted 15 overs. The latter got to the required total with five balls to spare with former Guyana Under-19 player Eyaaz Mohamed hitting a fine undefeated 41.
In tomorrow’s final, Dant face the only team who have stopped their unbeaten run in this year’s regular (20 overs) season tournament, whipping them in a high-scoring affair – a result that is sure to have supporters on both teams confident of victory for their respective sides.
Dant’s batting will be spearheaded by their season’s leading run-getter in vice-captain Hemnarine Chattergoon who has been in prolific form recently. All-rounder Damodar Daesrath, skipper Looknaught Ramsuchit, Shawn Deonandan and Muniram Karran are also expected to feature prominently. The bowling will be in the capable hands of Satrohan ‘Blade’ Balkarran, Bolanauth ‘Bunty’ Sukhu, Deonandan and Riaz Kadir.
Not to be outdone, Sunshine’s batting lineup has also been shining with the likes of Azam Haniff, Anil Etwaroo, Avinash Sukhdeo and Anil Ramotar featuring among the runs.
Captain Mahendranauth ‘Bobby’ Parasnauth is still rated among the best softball bowlers around and is known to have a penchant for the big occasion. He will be supported by Sukhdeo and Etwaroo among others in the bowling department.
A keen contest is therefore expected between two of the main powerhouses of softball in the OSCL.
What is significant in the Conference B final is the fact that both Enterprise and GTA Storm are unbeaten in the regular season, the former with a 10-game winning streak and the latter romping to nine consecutive victories. Picking a winner therefore is anybody’s guess.
