THE Mayor and City Council has sworn in 17 new constables who recently completed their basic recruitment and training programme.Town Clerk Royston King, in addressing them, said that the City Council needs able-bodied males to execute its mandate.
Meanwhile, Chief Constable Andrew Foo said that the new batch of recruits would boost the staff complement, particularly in the recently established units of Traffic Management and Special Investigation.
And the Town Clerk, in congratulating the new recruits, told them that it is not all about the money, but rather it is about working with the municipality to realise the wider vision of making Georgetown the cleanest, greenest city in the Caribbean.
He said: “You come at a very special time in the history of the municipality when the council is working assiduously to restore the pride and dignity of Georgetown.”
King said further that the new ranks have a special role to play in enforcing the city bylaws, and called on them to make a difference. “It is important that you execute your functions with dignity, respect and decorum.” He also encouraged them to work as a team because it is only through teamwork that the wider vision of the Georgetown Municipality would be accomplished.
