Murder case now manslaughter case

AFTER a year-long Preliminary Inquiry (PI) of a murder, 47-year-old Jamal Bacchus of Caledonia, East Bank Demerara was committed to face a judge and jury for the offence of manslaughter. At the end of the PI, Magistrate Fabayo Azore decided to reduce the murder charge to manslaughter, based on the evidence provided in court.

It is alleged that on February 4, 2015, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport access road, Bacchus murdered minibus driver Dhanshana Ram. Bacchus is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes.
According to a police report, on the day in question, Ram sustained stab wounds about his body during an argument at Timehri.
Ram was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
