Motorcyclist died from broken spine

A POST-MORTEM conducted on the body of 70-year-old Nathaniel Sears, whom residents last Thursday morning found dead on the West Coast Berbice highway at Armadale, with his motorcycle a few feet away, has revealed that he succumbed to a broken spine. The examination lay to rest speculations that he may have died from natural causes.

Sears, an employee of the Mahaica/ Mahaicony/Abary Agricultural Development Authority (MMA/ADA), was reportedly en route to the MMA Office at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice for an assignment in Georgetown when he met his demise.

Police had reported earlier that his body did not have any visible marks of violence, but it was observed that the motorcycle chain had slipped. Investigators believe he may have encountered an accident when the chain of his bike slipped, causing him to fall and receive the fatal injury.

The official cause of death as determined by the post-mortem was on Monday being further investigated by police.

The deceased will be laid to rest on Saturday.
