More sponsors on board for Guyana Cup horserace meet

PRESIDENT of the Guyana Rice Producers Association (GRPA) Leckha Ramrich as well as principals of BM Soat Auto Spares last week joined the list of sponsors on board the 10th annual Guyana Cup horserace meet scheduled for the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne, Berbice on August 14.According to a release, Ramrich, a horse racing enthusiast and businessman handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum to Revon DeSouza, a member of the organising committee of the race meet.
Last week also, a representative of BM Soat Auto Spares joined their counterparts of the Auto Sales section in handing over their contribution to the event which is also being staged in observance of Guyana’s 50th Independence anniversary.
Eight races are carded for the day’s event which is being staged by the Jumbo Jet Establishment in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club, whose grounds committee members are ensuring that the venue is in order and the track is properly graded and rolled for the mega event which has over $22M in cash prizes as well as other incentives at stake.
The feature event is for horses classified `A’ and Lower, battling or 1600-metres and the winner pocketing $4.5M.
The co-feature event is open to three-year-old Guyana and West Indies-bred horses and they will contest a 1600m race as well with the winner receiving $2.4M.
A two-year-olds race is also on the cards and this is open to West Indies-bred animals that will battle in a 1000m event for $1.2M.
There is also a 1300m race for E’ Class and Lower horses with the winner drawing down $1M.
In the eight-race card the winner of the 1300m race for horses classified `G’ and Lowe will collect $700 000.
Horses classified `H’ and Lower will do battle over 1400m with the winner taking home $500 000.
A 1100m race is also on the day’s programme and is open to horses classified `J &K’ and Lower with winning earnings of $350 000.
Horses classified `L’ will contest a 1000m race with $250 000 at stake for the winner.
Trophies and other incentives will be at stake for the top jockey ($50 000 plus trophy)as well as for the runner-up jockey. The top stable and champion trainer will also be rewarded.
Apart from the cash prizes for the winners of each event, trophies and cash prizes are also on offer for the other top finishers of each event.
The day’s activity will be conducted under the Rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
