Mohan Memorial Cup set for Mash Day

WHEN long-standing president of Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club (HACC) Narchand “Archie” Mohan and other founding-members established the body more than 20 years ago in Canada, they also formed a youth club under the same name at his birth place, Cotton Tree Village, West Bank Berbice.

While the success of the club in Toronto is well documented, moreso in the last six years, being champions of the Premiere League of the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) tournaments, the youth club has faded into oblivion.
Spurred by his team’s unprecedented feats in Canada, Mohan is bent on resuscitating the youth club at Cotton Tree and towards this end, a grand four-team Under-19 tournament and fun day is planned for Mashramani Day at C-3 Park in the same area.
The teams to be in contention are HACC Under-19, Blairmont Blazers, DeEdward and West Berbice Achievers. The action starts at 10.00 am.
Mohan is also using the occasion to honour his late mother Kuntie Mohan who passed away five years ago, hence the winners will cart off the Mohan Memorial Cup.
Several other incentive cash awards and trophies will also be presented to the man-of-the-match in the final and other outstanding players and among the sponsors expected to be on board are HACC, Mohan Contracting Inc, Trophy Stall, Iqbal Construction, R&R Auto, T&M Enterprise and Jusmat Inc.
Among the players expected to be on show for the HACC Under-19 team is Leonardo Seetayah who had the astonishing figures of five for four in a losing cause, playing for Cotton Tree Diehard against Blairmont Community Centre in the Elizabeth Style sponsored Under-19 tournament.
Meanwhile, the HACC team will come from: L. Seetayah, D. Samuels, A. Shewtahal, A. Khalid, Keran Arjune, Kishan Arjune, F. Gaffoor, H. Singh, A. Hemra, S. Ramah, A. Khan, R. Critchlow, M. Sibdhanny, D. Bishun, and C. Hamchandra. Manager is Nigel Seetayah, who is also the president of the club while the coach is Iqbal Alli.
