… Windwards, Leewards game abandoned

LED by off-spinner Anisa Mohammed, Trinidad and Tobago completed a stunning 5-wicket win over Guyana in game eight of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Women’s T20 tournament, played yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. The visitors produced a disciplined bowling and fielding effort to restrict their Guyanese counterparts to a modest 63-8, and then reached 64-5 in eight overs.
Deciding to bat first after the game was delayed by rain, it was a struggle for the Guyanese batters from the word go, as they lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to put on a substantial partnership to get to a winning total.
Player-of-the-Match, Mohammed, picked up 4-9, a spell that hurt the Guyanese Women’s momentum, with only Melaine Henry (14), and Tremayne Smartt (14), managing to get to double digits.
She was brilliantly supported by miserly spells from Lee Ann Kerby (1-6), Shenelle Lord (1-16), and Karishma Ramharack (1-17).
In reply, the visitors stumbled somewhat with the dismissals of Stacy Ann King (8), Kerby (6), Britney Cooper (18), Merissa Aguilleira (0), and Selene O’Neil (3), but Rachael Vincent and Mohammed took their team safely home with unbeaten knocks of 13 and 8 respectively.
Plaffiana Millington was the pick of the Guyanese bowlers with 2-14, while Erva Giddings and Subrina Munroe had a wicket apiece.
Meanwhile, the game between Windward Islands and Leeward Islands was abandoned after Windward Islands reached 78-2.
The tournament concludes today.
