MELBOURNE, Australia,( CMC) – All-rounder Mitchell Marsh is a doubt for next month’s Tri-Nations Series involving West Indies and South Africa, after being ruled out of the Indian Premier League with a side strain.He is set to return here from India for assessment shortly and Cricket Australia’s sports science and sports medicine manager, Alex Kountouris, said the player would be monitored ahead of Australia’s departure for the Caribbean.
“Mitchell experienced some pain over his left abdominal area whilst batting at a training session with his team Pune in the IPL a few days ago,” Kountouris said in a statement.
“He missed his team’s next game and the pain has not resolved. He had scans in India that suggest he has a side strain injury and will now return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the tour of the West Indies.
“Once we have a better understanding of the extent of the injury we will be able to advise on his return to play timeframes.”
The 24-year-old Marsh played three games for Rising Pune Supergiants, taking four wickets with his right-arm seam.
He has played 15 Tests and 30 One-Day Internationals since making his debut five years ago.
The Tri-Nations Series is scheduled for June 6-26 in Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Barbados.
