MOTORIST Otto Pitman, 26, who lost his right leg following a motorbike accident on D’Urban and High Streets, was on Saturday admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporatiion(GPHC) for the third time since being injured on March 1 last.Admitted for the second time two weeks ago for surgical intervention on his injured leg which had become infected, the procedure was successfully undertaken and he was discharged.

However, he was back again Saturday for a complication which will be treated and observed over the next few days.

The accident happened on March 1, 2015, around 5:30 hrs, as Pitman, a gold miner who hails from La Grange, West Bank Demerara, was riding his motorcycle in the vicinity of D’Urban and High Streets, Georgetown.
His motor cycle was struck from behind by a motorcar trying to avoid a water-filled pot hole on the roadway.
On impact, Pitman was rammed against a lamp post, resulting in his right leg being badly crushed. He ended up in a dirty drain at the roadside where he remained unconscious until he was spotted by men on a passing truck.
They picked him up, placed him in a vehicle and rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted and taken to the theatre.
However, within a few days, the infection had taken its toll, and doctors were forced to amputate the leg.
