SURINAMESE racer Oliver Liep Tjin Shie says that the secret to his dominant performance at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s Race of Champions on Sunday, was his mental sturdiness.
The Group 3 driver, who comes all the way from Suriname for race meets, says that Sunday’s performance was the crowning achievement thus far in this motorsport year.
“Well, Danny Persaud’s car is much faster than mine, but I think I had the mental advantage. We went into the corner too fast and he spun.” It (the performance) was fine, we have been working on the car since last November and we came and this was actually like a testing for November’s upcoming meet and it was good, the car ran well’
Over the past year, Group Three action has been attracting heated competition with several drivers upgrading their machines to the meet the requirements.
The action has been so well received by fans and drivers that the Caribbean Motor Racing Association had to introduce a Group three class for competitors.
Liep Tjin Shie says that he is considering a move to the Multi Region championship in the future, adding “I’m trying to work out some sponsorship. You know racing is expensive. I can’t pay everything by myself, but I think so, but I’ll be here in November for sure.” (Stephan Sookram)
