M&CC to remove derelict vehicles from City parapets as from Sept 10

WITH effect from September 10, a team from the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) will be taking to the streets to rid “our parapets” of derelict vehicles and other abandoned equipment left lying there.During an exclusive interview with Town Clerk Royston King on Wednesday last, the Guyana Chronicle was informed that this initiative was set to commence some time ago, but was postponed at the request of some of those derelict vehicle owners, who had requested more time to remove their belongings.

King has however made it clear that this advisory represents the last and final warning to be given to those persons: “All persons with derelict vehicles and equipment on the parapets around town are asked to remove them forthwith… this is our last appeal!”

King said the parapets around Georgetown are collectively owned by all citizens, and no one person has the right over them. By removing the derelict pieces of equipment, the aesthetics of the City would be enhanced, to the mutual benefit of locals and foreigners who are visiting the country.

Cleaning of the City would be made easier, as drains and other locations would be accessible. Also, given that the M&CC would be launching the Green City initiative on September 1, removing derelict vehicles and unusable equipment from the City’s parapets would assist in realising the dream of a cleaner and better Georgetown.
