M&CC to meet faith-based bodies –to discuss tax exemptions,other matters

THE Mayor and City Council (M&CC) will be meeting with faith-based organisations today at City Hall to discuss exemption from taxes and seek support on the “Green Clean City” initiative.According to the Municipal and District Councils Act, Chapter 28:01, Section 212, the Council may grant such exemptions to religious and other non-profit organisations.

“It is important that Council meet with these organisations to discuss the modalities of such applications,” a statement from M&CC said.

The Council will also be meeting with all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) tomorrow at 10:00hrs at City Hall. The focus of this meeting is to foster an alliance with NGOs in order to promote Council’s plans for the “Green Clean City” initiative, and for other municipal projects.

Council is cognisant that NGOs are important pillars in this society. Moreover, they are an important partner in promoting democracy and civic participation.
