TOWN Clerk Royston King has announced an amnesty for defaulting taxpayers to afford them an opportunity to pay their rates and taxes, interest-free.Making this announcement last Wednesday during an exclusive interview with this publication, King said that residential properties will receive a 100% amnesty on interests accrued.
However, commercial properties will have to apply and will be reviewed by an amnesty panel, after which they will be awarded between 50-75% on the interest accrued.
All property owners are encouraged to take advantage of this deal, and settle their accounts so that the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) can use the money to initiate their plans which are currently in the pipeline.
Over the years, persons have been withholding their rates and taxes, causing the M&CC to stall projects while being unable to carry out their usual activities. The payments of these monies are necessary so that Georgetown can be sustained and kept clean.
