Mayor’s Cup quarter-final action now set for Sunday at GFC

RAIN, clashes with other tournaments and other circumstances caused organisers of the Annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament to constantly reschedule matches.This will, however, be resolved on Sunday as coordinator of the annual event, Lennox Arthur, is going full steam ahead in ensuring the quarter-finals of the tournament are completed on Sunday evening when three matches will be completed at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
According to the former national coach, beginning at 16:30hrs Santos will face Police while from 18:30hrs, Western Tigers take on Eagles United.
The feature game involves Riddim Squad and Federal Winners Connection from 20:30hrs.
The semi-finals are set for August 31 while the third-place playoff as well as the final will be held on September 11.
Meanwhile, the leading goalscorer to date in the tournament is Gavin Graham of Den Amstel with three goals to his name. Fabian Crawford (Santos), Randolph Wagner (Western Tigers), Dwayne McLennan (Western Tigers), Nikosi Denny (Ann’s Grove) and Kevon Boston (Police) all have two goals each.
At the conclusion of the tournament, the player scoring the most goals will receive a three-piece suite, compliments of A.H. & L Kissoon Furniture Store.
The winning team of the final will earn $700 000 and the Aruwai resort trophy, while the runners-up will receive $300 000 and the Ansa McAl trophy.
The third-place will team cart off $200 000 and the John Fernandes Limited trophy. The fourth-placers will receive $100 000 and the Ministry of the Presidency trophy.
Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Limited has also donated hampers for members of the winning team in the final.
Also providing support for the tournament is Top Branz, distributor of Industrial Vehicle Batteries.
