A MAMMOTH gathering of supporters at Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, were told that the May 11 fight is a fight between the working class and the “pretenders” in the political Opposition.“Who are we confronting?” asked long-standing member with the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) members, Dr. Roger Luncheon.
He added, “Come Election Day it is the might of the working class of the PPP is up against the pretenders in the APNU+AFC (A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance For Change), which is PNC in disguise.”
Dr. Luncheon also questioned what the political Opposition has brought to the table.
“They dare to turn up in the right to challenge the PPP…we say to them no, no no!” he declared, to which the thousands cheered wildly.
According to him, the PPP/C has delivered for the Guyanese people. “They have asked you to forget the past, but we have to tell them that we will never forget 28 years, but will give the PPP/C five more years,” he said.
Dr. Luncheon pointed out that the 28 years of the PNC regime, added to the years of the successive PPP/C administrations, could have delivered greater opportunities for the Guyanese people.
He said, “You the people are the followers of Dr. Jagan, the fighters of social justice and you have renewed our mandate over and over and what we have done is clear…we are looking forward to more progress, to moving on to more development under the PPP.”
The PPP/C stalwart added that Guyana going forward should be a source of pride for all Guyanese. “We must say to the world that we are proud Guyanese and we are proud of our country and we will not be ashamed under the PNC.”
The struggles of the PPP/C, according to Dr. Luncheon, are still manifested in the freedoms Guyanese enjoy today.
“On May 11 the votes will be counted at the place of poll, Dr. Jagan gave that to us…(on May 11) we must put the final nail in their coffin and say to the PNC, never again, no more intimidation, no more bullyism, no more rigging…onward and forward with the PPP/C,” he stressed.
He also expressed appreciation for the support received in Region 3, adding that the region has always supported the PPP/C.
“We are here because Region 3 has always been behind the PPP….Region 3 has forever been part of the People’s Progressive Party…come May 11 Region 3 shall give the highest, the largest, the greatest vote to the PPP/C,” Dr. Luncheon said.
PROTECT GAINS
Meanwhile, PPP/C stalwart, Komal Chand, Sunday urged thousands of supporters to vote on May 11 to protect the gains made under successive PPP/C Administrations.
“Are you ready?” he questioned, to which the thousands cheered yes.
Chand added, “We have to protect our gains, it is our duty as citizens to protect our gains and come May 11 we must vote PPP/C. We must protect our future and continue to move this country forward”
According to him, the fight ahead is a two-way fight between the PPP/C and the People’s National Congress (PNC), disguised as the current political Opposition.
“They reduced our time in Government, but the PPP/C is not afraid of elections; free and fair elections we will always win…they betrayed the Guyanese people in Parliament and carried out a lot of anti-people policies,” he said.
Chand bemoaned the fact that in the last three years, the current administration has been frustrated.
“Three years they frustrated us, they stood in the way of development and the people are the ones with the power to stop this…they have sacrificed our people’s interest for their own personal interest,” he said.
To this end, he stressed that all Guyanese must vote and not be deceived by the political Opposition.
“Don’t forget their lies…we stand by our record…we have moved this country forward and we will move further,” Chand said.
The party member urged too that Guyana assess the progress for themselves and judge the PPP/C on the basis of merit.
“Look at the progress, look at the achievements, look at the everyday changes and judge for yourself….no one can deny the progress in all sectors,” Chand posited.
Both men stressed that on May 11 every vote must count.
