PARMANAND ‘Max’ Persaud struck gold for Guyana when he won the recently concluded Suriname Republic Bank Invitational Golf Tournament last Saturday and Sunday.
Max dominated the Stableford format which featured some 90 golfers from Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, French Guiana and Suriname.
“I found the course a tough one, because of the dryness of the earth,” Max related, “but I kept focus and determined to play well.
“At the end of the first day with 35 points I was fourth in my group, but on the second day I brought in a blazing 41 points to give me an aggregate of 76 points and make me the winner in my group of some 37 golfers.“
It is believed that this is the first time Guyana have won a first in the B-Class in Suriname’s Invitational.
In the Women’s B-Class, 3rd place finisher Shanella Webster, produced a fantastic and amazing play over the two days.
After being tied for 8th on the first Day, 9 points behind Hanka Wolterstorff, 8 points behind Patty Tjin A Tsoi, and 5 points behind Carmelita vid Blankevoort, Shanella stormed back by 8 points on Day 2 to tie for that day’s second place with Hanka, while Carmelita edged into that day’s first place.
When the aggregates were taken for the two days, winners were – 1st Hanka (76); 2nd Carmelita (73) and 3rd Shanella Webster of Guyana (67).
Patty also amassed 67 but because of Shanella’s better 2nd day’s score she received the 3rd prize.
Shanella also won the Longest Drive in her group while Kalyan Tiwari won the Longest Drive in his Men’s A-Class, and Lakeram Ramsundar the Nearest the Pin prize in the Men’s B-Class.
