THE Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) is offering free visits to the Georgetown Lighthouse during the period May 23 to 31, as part of activities to celebrate 50 years of Guyana being an Independent nation.MARAD, in a release, said it has noted with concern the challenges to obtain tickets to gain access to the Lighthouse during this period, and has taken the decision to facilitate visitors to this historic landmark free of cost.

“All Guyanese, including overseas-based and visitors, are urged to make use of this opportunity; and persons desirous of (making) this visit can make themselves available at the Lighthouse, where staffers are there to assist and guide respectively,” MARAD said.

The management of MARAD is wishing all Guyanese a happy Independence, as Guyana celebrates 50 years (golden jubilee) as an Independent nation.
