Waldron, a mini-bus tout, had reportedly hitched a ride on mini-bus BTT 9167 driven by Rhon Amsterdam, who reportedly requested that Waldron do duties as the bus conductor while on the way home. Some 30 passengers were reportedly in the bus at the time of the accident.

According to reports, the bus had, at about 19:30hrs, dropped off a passenger at Nismes when the driver drove off and failed to see a pile of mud on the roadway.

A passenger who was in the bus told the Guyana Chronicle that the driver tried to stop, but the slippery mud caused the bus to topple several times before it came to a halt in front of the Gafoors establishment on the Nismes roadway.

The witness further related that, because the bus was overloaded, the conductor was sitting in front of her; and during the accident, she felt him squeeze her hand.

The bus driver is a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
