Reports are that Andrews, who worked the Kitty/Campbellville route part-time, had challenged another minibus driver to a race, and when that driver told him off, Andrews sped off and, in the process, struck down a motorcyclist.
Once that happened, Andrews seemingly lost control of the vehicle, which swerved several times on the road before crashing. The motorcyclist and several persons, who were removed from the mangled bus, including the driver, were rushed to the hospital by public-spirited persons.
Luela Linton, mother of the deceased, said her son was a mason and the fourth of seven children. “He was known as a hardworking and free-handed boy. He was more than a son, he was well known.”
She said that she spoke to her son before he left the house to catch the minibus. “He died about after 2AM Sunday.” A post-mortem will be done on the body this week. The other passengers are also hospitalised.
