MACHINERY Corporation of Guyana Limited (MACORP) last Friday at its Providence, East Bank Demerara location, hosted a graduation ceremony for 24 trainees who graduated from the heavy–duty machinery technicians programme. The heavy-equipment training programme, which has an entry requirement of a craft certificate in electrical or mechanical studies from an accredited technical school, attracts the most qualified, gifted and disciplined young Guyanese. This certificate programme caters to persons from different parts of Guyana including Essequibo, Berbice, Linden and Demerara.

The MACORP trainers explained that the trainees were exposed to a comprehensive curriculum including Engine, Power Train, Hydraulic, Electrical, Electronic along with soft skills such as effective communication, inter-personal skills and conflict resolution. These qualities can be achieved, they explained, via blending teaching/blending learning methodology with emphasis on competency-based training.
The graduands were encouraged by speakers to strive for high ideals while maintaining a high level of discipline, knowledge and skills. They were also exhorted to live to MACORP’s core values of excellence, commitment, team work, integrity and honesty.
The company explained that the 10th batch of graduates completed the one -year Caterpillar heavy-equipment service fundamental training programme. This programme was started in 1998 with the aim of equipping technicians with special, needed skills to service Caterpillar heavy- duty equipment and machinery, while creating a future for young Guyanese.
“This programme provides an effective means to ensure a consistent level of superior results and quality in the delivery of MACORP’s customer service.” The new batch is expected to enhance the capacity of MACORP’s technical labour force and advance the technological standards of Guyana’s industrial sector
The Best Graduating Trainee was Shoghi Benjamin from the Essequibo Coast; second was Michael Thomas from Linden and third, Intiaz Singh from Demerara. The trainees were also awarded for demonstrating MACORP’s core values: “Excellence, Commitment and Team work.”
MACORP’s Value of Excellence was secured by Shoghi Benjamin and MACORP’s Value of Commitment was jointly secured by Patrick Ramsaroop and Tyrel Sullivan; while MACORP’s Value of Commitment was copped by Ryan Davson.
