A live grenade was thrown at the residence of Mahender Sharma and his wife Marcia Nadir Sharma just before midnight Tuesday night. Sharma heads  the Guyana Energy Authority and is the son C.N. Sharma, while Marcia is the Deputy Head of NICIL/Privatization Unit and daughter of Labour Minister Manzoor Nadir.
At that time of the incident, the couple and a guest were in the residence when they heard a thud against the building and as they looked out they saw the shade of the emergency light had broken off had landed in the yard. Later, at around 1:30hours, when Mr. Sharma was letting his guest out, he noticed what appeared to be a grenade in the yard.
It would appear that the grenade was aimed at the bedroom of the couple but landed just below the window.
Calls were made to the police with the bomb squad arriving at around 3:30am. They removed the grenade and combed the area.
