AN unemployed young man of Lot 6 Constabulary Compound, Linden, was on Friday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on four counts of break and enter and larceny. Martin Fraser, 18, pleaded not guilty to the charges, one of which said that between January 28 and 30, at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, he broke and entered the house of Dian Phillips and stole a refrigerator amongst other items, together valued $195,000.

The second charge stated that between January 29 and 30, at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Nikesha Fiedtkou and carted off a quantity of electronics which include one Avantie refrigerator, two Vasko fans and one HP Laptop computer, together valued $329,000.
Another charge said that between October 28 and 30, 2014 at Linden, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Lennard Jennings and stole one Sharp television set, one DSM Modem, one Cooler box, one gold chain, two gold earrings and one gold and diamond earrings, together valued over $4 M.
And finally, it is alleged that between January 25 and February 1 at Phase Three, Ameila’s Ward, he also broke and entered the house of Royston Leon and stole one music set, and one television set amongst other items valued $479,000.
The teenager who resides with his parents was represented by attorney-at-law Mr. Gordon Gilhuys who requested bail for his client, stating that he took him to the station concerning an assault charge, however, Fraser is now charged with breaking and entering offences.
Defence counsel said he also represents the other accused persons being charged with the said offences. He brought to the court’s attention that, when other accused persons made their first appearances in court, the charge involving Jennings totalled over $1M and now the amount changes to over $4 M.
Police Prosecutor Bergette Grant successfully opposed bail on the grounds of the nature and prevalence of the offence.
Counsel further argued that he took his client himself to the station, after the prosecutor had informed the court that he was arrested and then taken to the police station.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrates Court for today.
