THREE seriously committed artists came together and presented this important exhibition at Moray House Trust. The Trust is gaining a good reputation facilitating the performance and exposition of various art forms. At the current exhibition the team which included Tracy Douglas, Nicholas Young and Sigrid Sandker displayed art forms, the underlying theme of which were nature’s resources artistically presented by our ‘KINDRED SPIRITS’ the three artists. The exhibition showcased Paintings, Ceramics, Sculpture, Fabric (tie-dye with innovative painting) artistically painted leather bags and meditative drawings. It was exceptional in concept and highly creative in presentation. Dozens came to the exhibition and dozens felt wonderfully pleased by the comments they left in the guest book. Semantics cannot adequately describe the effect of the various pieces and the entire collection on the minds of visitors and viewers of the exhibits. They were simply as beautiful as nature itself and just as pleasing to the senses. The ‘KINDRED SPIRITS’ must be commended for their efforts. These pictorial representations may give some idea of the impact of the show.
Tracy Douglas’s works, her paintings, tie Dye with paintings, sneakers creatively modified with paintings and her jute-bags with leather painted are the products of a creative mind that she says brings to her much energy. ‘Goddess Energy’ she calls it. She’s intent to utilise such ideas to interact with society and attract the attention of all. She is hopeful that there will be more exhibitions and more interactions between participating artists. Her small meditative drawings lend themselves to the transference of themes onto three dimensional natural objects and even fabric. Her Chiffon Scarf 57”x 57’ is a wonderful example of this.
Nicholas Young’s Ceramics speaks eloquently of the artists’ passion and creative integrity. Sigrid Sandker promulgates that appreciation of Art reflects a society’s morality, it’s lack of prejudice, it’s manner of problem solving and acceptance of truth. She is adamant that art is work and Creative art a valid career. She dispels the notion that art is merely a hobby and Artists are mere dreamers. She insists that without Art and Artists, life would be meaningless and empty of beauty.
The European Union’s Ambassador to Guyana, Mr Robert Kopecky is himself a great lover of Art and an avid collector of Art works.
Addressing the gathering of Diplomats and Georgetown civil society members at Moray House last Wednesday evening, he thanked the artists and showed his appreciation for their work. Many were treated to a most rare and wonderful evening of Art, conversation and appreciation.
