As part of its mandate to provide quality and safe service to the Guyanese public, the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD), under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, is undergoing repair works to motor vessels Kimbia and Sandaka.In a release the Ministry of Public Infrastructure said both MV Kimbia and MV Sandaka were docked yesterday, November 25, 2015, at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) and T&HD’s Mazaruni dockyard, respectively.
With regard to MV Kimbia, the vessel’s estimated cost of repairs is pegged at $107M. The vessel, which plies the Georgetown to Kumaka, Region 1 route, is set to undergo general docking and rehabilitation works to its hull, on-board machinery, and underwater fittings along with other repairs. GNIC has been contracted to rehabilitate the vessel and the repair works are scheduled to last six weeks.
Meanwhile, the estimated cost of repairs for MV Sandaka is $33M. The vessel, which plies the Leguan to Parika route, is expected to undergo general docking as well as repairs to its super structure, underwater fittings, hull, machinery and other areas. Courtney Benn Contracting Services Limited has been contracted for the job, which is set to last for four weeks.
