Kallicharan, Cooper & Maharaj spark TT to 312 for 6

SUPERB batting by skipper Kirstan Kallicharan, Cephas Cooper, Brandon Maharaj and Dejourn Charles placed Trinidad and Tobago in a very strong position on the first day of their opening round fixture against arch-rivals Barbados in their West Indies Cricket Board under19s two-innings match being played at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex, Kingstown, St Vincent & Grenadines.At the close of play yesterday, Trinidad and Tobago, having batted first were in command with 312 runs for the loss of six wickets.Triumphant West Indies Under-19 player Kallicharan registered his maiden Under-19 century and was dismissed off the last ball of the day’s play for a heroic 105 while Brandon Maharaj is unbeaten on 77.
Tobago-born Charles, a member of the PowerGen SSCL T20 champion Carapichaima East Secondary; who opened the batting scored 52 while Naparima College’s Cooper, who started the WICB Under17 series with a half-century did likewise again yesterday for the national Under19 team.
Cooper batted at number three and chalked up 59.
The match continues today with the T&T team seeking to set Barbados a mammoth total and then put them under pressure with their battery of spinners.
In the other two matches that started yesterday, Jamaica closed at 97 for five against Guyana at Park Hill ground, while Windwards were dismissed for 109 in their clash with Leeward Islands at Sion Hill. In reply Leewards had reached 75 for 4 at the close.(Brij Parasnath).
