THE Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has named a 10-member team to tour the Caribbean Motor Racing Association’s Third Leg in Barbados next month. Leading the team will be 2014 CMRC Group 4 champion and current points leader Kristian Jeffrey and his father Kevin, both in their Mitsubishi Evolutions 9.

The Evo duo, built and tuned by Top Power Racing out of Mon Repos, had a consistent run at the recently concluded GMR&SC Race of Champions, finishing first and second on both Group 4 occasions.
They will be joined by Mark Vieira in his Mazda Rx-8 as he makes his CMRC debut for 2015. Vieira is expected to be a major contender for podium spots in Barbados, based primarily because he has spent a major part of his racing year on the Bushy Park Raceway competing in the local Radical Series.
The addition of the ever-dependable Danny Persaud in Groups 4 and 3 leaves Guyana with a formidable force in the group of top Caribbean cars. Persaud had minor mechanical issues last Sunday with his Mazda Miata but has undertaken a massive job of putting his car under the microscope for maximum dependability as he will be competing in two classes.
Apart from Persaud in Group 3, the Rameez Mohammed has signalled his intention to return his recently built Toyota Levin to the circuit life during the Barbados leg. Engine troubles in Trinidad earlier this year sidelined the car from the recent GMR&SC meet but he has indicated that the machine will be back for September.
Nazim Gafoor, a newcomer on the circuit will represent the Group 2 class of the event with his Mazda Miata but he also had mechanical troubles on Sunday, something that will be sorted out before shipping.

SUPERBIKE SELECTION
The superbikes will not be short of representation with the likes of Matthew Vieira leading the charge. His recent dominance on two wheels at the track has made him a definite contender for the series and his recently-acquired Triumph Daytona 675 has made him a tough competitor on the track.
His support will come in the form of Elliot who joins the overseas charge for a second time this year after the Jamaican leg in February. Bike troubles with his Kawasaki zx6r cost him a valuable warm-up on Sunday but he has put his hand up for Barbados participation.
Joel ‘GM’ Neblett and Kevin Persaud are the other riders named. Neblett makes his maiden 2015 voyage with Persaud having toured Jamaica earlier in the year. Both were able to put in valuable seat times with their bikes on Sunday with Persaud aboard his Kawasaki zx6r having the hog’s share of prizes in the B class divison.
The vehicles for the second leg will be loaded early next week according to the Club with the Barbados meet billed for September 11-14, 2015 at the Bushy Park Circuit in St Phillips. (Stephan Sookram)
