THE Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and the Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) have launched a joint investigation into the washout of the fourth Test between West Indies and India.The Windies were 62-2 in their first innings when heavy rain in Port of Spain on the island of Trinidad cut short play on day one at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Despite sunshine and blue skies for the four following days, the outfield retained too much water for the pitch to be playable, with West Indies losing the series 2-0.
As a result, India missed out on the 3-0 win needed to retain their place at the top of the International Cricket Council Test rankings, with Pakistan displacing them.
The TTCB and QPCC will probe the circumstances that led to the lack of play, with the aim of avoiding a repeat in the future.
“As hosts, the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and QPCC regret that limited play was possible in the fourth Test match between WI and India at the Queen’s Park Oval,” a statement from TTCB president Azim Bassarath read.
“We have jointly launched an investigation to determine what occurred with a view to remedying the situation so that this does not occur in the future. “Once this has been done it will be presented to the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board). ”
