SOFTBALL in Guyana has received a major shot in the arm with the launch of the Parsun Inter-county tournament set for October 24 at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
After a 14-year hiatus, the return of the Inter-county version of ‘the people’s game’ has sparked excitement among various clubs and sponsors.
93.1 FM and Parsun representative Kort Yee who was on hand at the launching said his companies are pleased to be associated with a tournament of that magnitude, adding that “Parsun is happy to support softball”.
Ansa McAl Public Relations Officer Dharshanie Yusuf added that “Stag is always a supporter of sport, whether it be softball or football.”
Digicel representative Louanna Abrams expressed her company’s obvious joy to be on board with the rebirth of softball locally.
The other major sponsor is Crown Mining. The organisation of the event falls under the ambit of the Guyana Softball Cricket League
The tournament will feature 8 teams over two days of action at two venues.
The top two teams from Berbice, Demerara and Essequibo as well as the best from Linden and Bartica will be divided into two groups, for two rounds of matches at Everest and the Ministry of Education ground.
After the second round of matches, the top two teams will advance to the semi-finals then ultimately the final, where the winning team will take home $500 000 and a trophy, compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market. (Stephan Sookram)
