IN recognition of the indefatigable work being done by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) in preparation for the professional, free, fair and transparent conduct of the May 11 General and Regional Elections, the High Commissioner of India to Guyana, Mr. V. Mahalingam, handed over a cheque valued at $10.25M to the Chief Election Officer, Mr. Keith Lowenfield, on Wednesday.This contribution, according to GECOM, will be utilised in aspects of its Civic and Voter Education programme, a press release stated.
“It will be used to ensure that adequate provisions are in place during the elections to facilitate persons living with disabilities, and for activities associated with Polling Day itself,” GECOM said.
On receiving the contribution, Lowenfield conveyed the heartfelt thanks of the Commission and staff of the GECOM Secretariat, and promised to judiciously use the funds provided by the High Commission of India to further serve the Guyanese people through the competent, proficient and professional delivery of GECOM’s Civic and Voter Education Programme.
The High Commissioner of India was accompanied by his Second Secretary (Politcal, Culture, Information, Consular and Head of Chancery), Mr. S.M. Joshi.
