A POSITIVE outlook is what Matthew Vieira has on the upcoming Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) third round in Barbados on September 13. Vieira, one of the youngest talents on two wheels and one of the more dominant factors in recent times, says that he expects Barbados to be exciting, adding, “I have no other choice than to be confident at this point. I dominated on August 9 and I can’t defeat myself before I go on track (Bushy Park).”
“As you know, the bike (Triumph Daytona 675) is very different from any other bike racing against it, but I’m very confident in my ability and in the bike that we can get it right,” the 18-year-old continued.
On only his second outing to the land of the flying fish, Vieira noted, “Last year, the track was new, the surface was new so it was a little bit slippery and you couldn’t really tell who was fast because you couldn’t get traction.”
“But Barbados has very skilled riders and I’m sure they will be challenged,” Matthew, the son of ace driver Mark Vieira pointed out.
Prior to shipping, he explained to Chronicle Sport that he did not make any changes but he does foresee that some may need to be made to accomplish best results on race day.
Adjustments to the shocks and forks and also the gear ratios are some of the little things he says may make a difference between the chequered flag for his Truck Masters and Mohammed’s Enterprise-sponsored machine, come race day.
Apart from Matthew, the superbike team has his cousins, Elliot and Stephen, as well as Joel Neblette and Kevin Persaud.
Matthew’s father Mark (Vieira) will also be touring to Barbados in Group four alongside the father-son duo of Kristian and Kevin Jeffrey and Danny Persaud, who will run his car in both groups four and three.
Nazim Gafoor (Group 2) is the other addition to the team which heads to Barbados for the September 11-14 event in St Phillips.
