Human Services Ministry departments still in relocation process

MINISTER of Human Services and Social Security, Ms. Jennifer Webster, Monday told the Guyana Chronicle that minor works are still to be completed, delaying the relocation of the several Ministry departments to a new location.

A section of the Ministry will be moving to the unoccupied Lamaha Street building which formerly housed the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Secretariat.
“Staffers, including myself, have already started moving over. Hopefully we will be completely relocated by the end of the week,” she said.
The Minister added that once the contractors complete their works, the final efforts in making the new location fully operational will be done by the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T). “GT&T has said that as soon as the contactors are finished working, they will hook up the phone lines,” she said.
According to her, the new building will house the Minister’s Secretariat, the Permanent Secretary’s Secretariat, the Administration and Human Resources Departments, the Women’s Affairs Bureau (WAB) the Probation and Social Services Departments, the Difficult Circumstances Unit, The Legal Advisor’s Office, the Management and Information Systems (MIS) Department and the Accounting Unit.
The move which was scheduled to be done since September 15 was delayed.
