NATRICIA Hooper and Compton Caesar will represent Guyana at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games 2015 from September 5 to 11 on the Pacific island of Samoa, according to president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Aubrey Hutson. Speaking recently, the AAG boss indicated that “Compton (Caesar) unfortunately has always been missing the flight to have international exposure. If you talk to his coach, a number of times he is selected for a number of teams, (but) for some reason or the other they could not make it,
Caesar and Hooper joined Avon Samuels at South American world youth championships, earlier this year and Hudson explained that “the exposure in Cali (Colombia) has done great for him, he is training hard. We wish him well. He is going off with Ms Natricia Hooper and once you hear these games taking place, this is controlled by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA)”
The Athletics boss stated that looking forward there are many things that will spur the enhanced performance of athletes, adding that “when we look at our senior athletes, even when we run our senior championships and we encourage athletes 16 and over to participate in those championships, we find either they come first or very good second and third, which tells you, your junior and senior athletes are really and truly stepping up.”
Hutson added that the bulk of the future lies in the AAG’s youth and junior programme and they are working very hard to expose them to as many international competitions as possible.
