Home Affairs announces overseas training for officials

THE Ministry of Home Affairs announced yesterday that the following persons will be attending training programmes:

From the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Assistant Superintendent Ewart Whittaker will attend a Hemispheric Workshop on Best Practices in Travel Document from February 26 to 28, in Miami, Florida, United States.
It will promote the exchange of information and experiences on the issuance and control of travel documents and identity management in the member States of the Organisation of American States (OAS) to identify the key challenges, gaps in knowledge training and support needs for the future.
Senior Superintendent Maxine Graham will be at a regional workshop to enhance the capacity of women involved in Major Events Security from March 10 to 12, in Ottawa, Canada.
That will focus on strengthening the capacity of female security practitioners with the potential to advance to management level in the fields of crime prevention and security governance, including managing elements of major security events.

From the Ministry, Major General (ret’d) Michael Atherly will attend:

* The continuation of the First Plenary of the Governmental Expert Group (GEG) of the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) for the Sixth Evaluation Round from February 24 to March 1, in Washington, D. C. The purpose of it is to complete the review and evaluation of the draft reports of the Sixth Evaluation Round and
* A Regional Workshop on Major Events Security and Annual Focal Point Meeting from March 12 to 14,
in Ottawa, Canada. The purpose of the latter is to gather all National Focal Points from participating member States, along with selected subject matter experts, to exchange best practice and lesson learnt in the field of major events security and crime prevention.

* Ms. Narima Mohamed, Immigration Staff of the Ministry will be at a Hemispheric Workshop on best practices in travel documents from February
26 to 28, Miami, Florida. That forum will promote the exchange of information and experiences on the issuance and control of travel documents and identity management in the members of the Organisation of American States (OAS), to identify the key challenges, gaps in knowledge training and support needs for the future.
