TEAM Gillette Evolution’s Orville Hinds is the current leader in the Guyana Cycling Federation’s (GCF) points standing after three quarters of the cycling season near an end.According to a Guyana Cycle News report, Hinds has so far accumulated 165 points to occupy the top spot ahead of his team mate Michael Anthony (147).
Roraima Bikers’ Alanzo Greaves (98) and Team Coco’s Hamza Eastman (96) are third and fourth respectively with Team Alanis Paul DeNobrega (94) and Team Gillette Evolution’s Raul Leal (75) complementing the top six to date.
Greaves, Eastman and DeNobrega are currently training in the United States.
All three riders, along with Geron Williams, Raynauth Jeffrey, Horace Burrowes (GCF president), Scott Savory and Godfrey Pollydore, are also campaigning in the U.S. and return home frequently to compete for spots on national teams to represent Guyana regionally and internationally.
However, their placings in races on the U.S. circuit are not considered by the GCF as performances noteworthy of being added to the points they would have accumulated on the local scene.
Williams of the Continental Cycle Club is 10th in the standing with 63 points, the same number registered by veteran rider Robin Persaud of Carlton Wheelers and Team Coco’s junior cyclist Jamaul John.
Making up the top ten positions is Alonzo Ambrose of Team Alanis with 68 points (7th).
Raynauth Jeffrey of Team Coco’s is 20th with 21 points, while Team WS United’s Burrowes is 21st with 15 points and Team Lupus’ (U.S.) Scott Savory is placed 29th with six points.
