Harris back on track

JUST A FEW days after cancellation of his fight against Raul Carrillo for the USNBC welterweight title, Vivian Harris has picked up a much more tempting offer, securing a bout with another Mexican but will have to move up one division to make it a reality.

He is now down to battle Ramon Alvarez for the International Boxing Federation Latin America junior middleweight crown – a fight that is scheduled for November 29 in Mexico.
“I have said that when one door is closed another is opened. I now have a chance to move up and fight Alvarez. I am taking this opportunity with two hands. God is good and will continue opening doors for me,” Harris told Chronicle Sport.
Harris was scheduled to fight Carrillo this Friday but the event was cancelled last Wednesday after the Mexican pulled out without explanation.
Quizzed about his preparation to flex his newly found junior middleweight muscles the 36-year-old former World Boxing Association junior welterweight champion said 154 pounds may turn out to be his natural habitat.
“Unknown to many, I have fought as a junior middleweight before. I think I’ll be just as good at the 154-pound limit as I am as a welterweight. At times you have to push yourself to know just how good you are. I see this as just another push for me.”
Harris had been training in Phoenix, Arizona for the Carrillo fight but will be shifting to Las Vegas to get ready for the November 29 contest.
“I’ll be leaving on Sunday for Las Vegas to start my training. It will be hard work because I expect a hard 12-round fight. As I said before, I want to be world champion again and this is the road that will take me there.”
The 28-year-old Alvarez, hails from Jalisco, Mexico, and has never fought outside his home country. He has been defeated four times in 26 fights, the last being a 12-round decision to Mario Alberto Lonzano on October 10, 2012.
