TORONTO, Canada – When Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club (HACC) won their first-ever Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) Premiere League tournament in 2010, it marked the beginning of an unprecedented run of success that saw them become the most sought-after team in the league.Despite experiencing what can be rightfully described as a mixed season in 2015, HACC still managed to emerge victorious in a pulsating final versus Scarborough Cricket Club (SCC) on a cold and wintry Saturday last October, thereby registering an unprecedented sixth consecutive championship.

It was a victory engineered by a superb unbeaten ton by former Guyana and West Indies B opener Krishna Arjune with brilliant support from Malaysian Azhad Amidon.
After losing two matches during the regular season, HACC survived a scare in a hotly contested semi-final against Highland Creek, who had earlier beaten them in a preliminary round fixture, to come out winners.
HACC were hustled out for what seemed an inadequate 128 all out in 38.1 overs but rebounded to bundle out their opponents for a paltry 90 in 45.5 overs, winning by 38 runs. Former West Indies One-day player Royston Crandon, who captured four for 10 from his 10 overs, played a pivotal role in that win.
Of much significance, the new season will see the introduction of the Elite League, featuring the top eight teams from last year’s Premiere League and according to HACC president Narchand ‘Archie’ Mohan, his team’s aim is not only to continue their winning ways but also to ensure the club’s name is indelibly written as the inaugural winners of the tournament.
HACC have also set their sights on the T-20 competition which the SCA has announced will be reintroduced this season with the possibility of some games being played under lights.
Mohan is also excited about the prospects of his charges competing in this version of the game since he feels they are adept with the necessary know-how.
Already with several seasoned campaigners, HACC will be further boosted with the expected return of former Guyana national captain Damodar Daesrath, who last represented Canada in 2013.
Former Guyana Under-19 player Ejaz Mohamed, former Berbice batsman Loaknauth Ramsuchit and Frederick Pestano are also scheduled to join the team which will once again be led by former Guyana and West Indies batsman Hemnarine Chattergoon.
Coupled with the inclusion of Arjune, Crandon, vice-captain Anil Samuel and hard-hitting all-rounder Zaheer Allard, HACC’s fire-power is sure to set tongues wagging.
Arjune copped the Most Valuable Player award at last year’s presentation ceremony and, apart from his century in the final, he also slammed 132 against Toronto Smashers in a preliminary round encounter while his off-spin bowling was vital in several matches.
The club’s reign of successes in finals started in 2010 when they defeated Panoli Cricket Club and this was followed by triumphs over East West XI in 2011, Victoria Park in 2012, Bawa XI in 2013, East West in the aborted final in 2014 and SCC in 2015.
Meanwhile, the club is also set to receive substantial sponsorship in the form of uniforms from the 747 Touchdown Bar & Lounge, situated at Airstrip Road, Lethem and owned by Mohan’s nephew Vishal Mohan and wife Reema Singh-Mohan who reside in Canada.
The husband/wife combination, who also owns Mohan Contracting firm here, also previously sponsored uniforms under that banner but has consented to extend same under the Guyanese-based business.
Other sponsors on board include IR Construction, Tropical Breese, T&M Enterprise, R&S Cargo, North Park Nursing School and R&R Auto.
