THE CAREBACO (Caribbean Regional Badminton Confederation) Individual Championships started on Thursday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the Guyanese all advancing to the next round. At the Club Los Prados, number three seeded player Narayan Ramdhani defeated Dominic Howard from Barbados in Round 2: 21-10, 21-8 in the Boys Under-19 Singles.
In the Under-19 Mixed Doubles, Narayan Ramdhani (Guyana) & Anjali Paragsingh from Trinidad defeated Leonardo Chong from Panama & Franchesca Lebron from Dominican Republic in Round 1: 21-7, 21-2.
In the Boys Under-17 Singles, Jonathan Mangra from Guyana lost to No.2 seeded player Reneldo Sinanan from Trinidad in Round 2: 21-14, 21-19.
Jonathan Mangra (Guyana) & Vitmary Rodriguez of Puerto Rico lost to No.3 seeded players Joel Angus & Alana Bailey of Jamaica in Round 1: 21-6, 21-12 in the Under-17 Mixed doubles.
In the Boys Under-15 Singles, Tyrese Jeffrey from Guyana defeated Shomari Smith from Barbados in Round 1 21-13, 21-15.
Under-15 Mixed Doubles, number four seeded players Priyanna Ramdhani & Tyrese Jeffrey of Guyana overcame Tijae Hinds & Imani Gaynor from Jamaica in Round 1: 21-3, 21-8.
Due to the Tropical Storm Erika heading to the Dominican Republic, the afternoon sessions had to be postponed and will be played later today.
The countries taking part in the Team Championships are: Dominican Republic, Barbados, Panama, Trinidad, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Guyana.
