UNITED States-based Guyanese cyclists Geron Williams, Hamza Eastman and Scott Savory are creating waves in the United States of America.According to the Guyana Cycling News Facebook page, Williams who rides for the ChampionSystem/Stan’sNoTubes team, won the Raritan Cycling Classic which is the first of three races in the ‘Tour of Summerville’ Series in New Jersey on Saturday.
The Raritan Cycling Classic is a 30-mile criteruim race which is raced on a very technical circuit with six corners. Barbados’ Darren Matthews who won the National Sports Commission-sponsored 32nd edition of the Annual Independence Three-Stage cycle road race here in Guyana last year, finished in 8th place, just ahead of Savory, who placed a creditable 9th place in the prestigious event that paid the top 10 finishers.
The riders were down to do battle in the Bound Brook Cycling Classic over 40 miles yesterday, ahead of the main event today.
Last Thursday, Williams stood on top of the podium after a lean spell on the bike as he showed his class with a commanding victory at the United’s Rubaik Race Series at the Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY.
Consistent Guyanese sprinter Savory placed second while Quinten Winkel of Curacao placed third.
Eastman who rides for Team Coco’s made his racing debut in the USA with a fifth place finish in the Robert Ollivierra Memorial Race on Saturday in Brooklyn, NY.
The event was won by Johann Burrowes who is one of the four Burrowes brothers of Guyanese heritage.
According to the Guyana Cycling News facebook page, Eastman said he found the cold weather very tough and he was numb all over from the chill. He said if the cold weather continues it will take him some time to adjust and find his groove.
Savory who rides for Team Lupus, chalked up his 4th win of the year in the second round of the ‘I Will Foundation Tuesday Night Race Series’ in Brooklyn, NY.
Savory now wears the leader’s jersey in the series after placing 2nd in the first race to teammate Winston David.
This is the 22nd Annual I Will Foundation Tuesday Race Series’.
The races take place every Tuesday night from May 6 to August 26 at Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field.
